Road Trip!!!!

These two little words are two of the most beautiful in the English language. We’re spoiled living in South East Queensland, with so many great spots to cruise off to. From a day trip to the coast, to a long drive all the way up to Airlie Beach, the best way to see Queensland is by car.

Road trips can be a lot of fun, but just like buying a used car, they can easily go wrong if you don’t do things properly. To start, you need a loose plan, a GPS, a map (for when the GPS is wrong!) and most importantly, a good sense of humour. Beyond this, there are a few tricks and tips we’ve learned over the years.

Choose your companions wisely.

Some friends are road trip friends and some friends are plane trip friends. Stop and think about it for a moment. You’ll know which are which.

Music makes the trip.

The radio is great for a while but it’ll let you down once you hit the mountains. Make a playlist for your ipod, stick it on random, and with each new song you’ll find yourself saying, ‘Oh cool, I forgot I put that on there!’

You can’t have enough snacks.

There’s no such thing as calories on the road, so you can snack to your heart’s content. If you can, stop at grocery stores rather than convenience stores and petrol stations. The variety is much better and you’ll save cash too. Just remember, the more salty chips, the more Coke. And the more Coke, the more toilet stops! Keep an eye out for roadside fruit stalls for a break from the junk.

Love your car and it will love you back.

Our first tip on car preparation is to clean it out before your trip. You’re going to be spending a lot of time in there, and you don’t want that old shoe smell following you all the way up the coast.

Also make sure you give your car a bit of TLC before you leave. Roadside breakdowns can be the death of a good road trip. Change your fluids and check your tyres and alignment before you head out, and keep an eye under the hood along the way. And always have a large bottle of water in the boot. It can double as radiator fluid, or for drinking if you find yourself stranded somewhere.

Follow these tips and you’ll have a road trip you can’t get wrong. For used car buying you can’t get wrong check out
